to the NGU campus community and to our friends from the surrounding area.

Theatre Scholarships Available: 2009/2010 theatre scholarships are available to any student who has declared a major in theatre. Current and prospective students are encouraged to read the guidelines and complete an application here. Email the department chair with any questions: dsavidge@ngu.edu
SETC Results: 20 NGU students and faculty traveled to Birmingham for the Southeastern Theatre Conference; many of them auditioned and interviewed for jobs and everyone attended some of the valuable workshops SETC offers. Leah Thomas has accepted a management internship with Florida Repertory Theatre; Brittany Sullivan will be doing a stage management apprenticeship at Orlando Shakespeare Festival; Christie Buerer will be working at the Gainesville (GA) theatre alliance this summer; Roz Stanley, Justin Walker and Katy Beth Cassell are sifting through callbacks and opportunities. It was a great trip and learning experience for everyone who attended.
Students and grads out and about: Leah Thomas, Katy Beth Cassell and grad Roz Stanley traveled to Chicago for the University and Resident Theatre auditions in February; Justin Walker has been touring with the SC Children's Theatre and was recently cast in their production of The Reluctant Dragon. Chris Hecke sang a lead role in Clear Lake: The Rock and Roll Reunion at Centre Stage in Greenville and will play the Prince in Cinderella for the SC Children's Theatre; Elyse Middlebrooks has been hired to design costumes for 2 shows at Centre Stage and Katy Beth Cassell has been cast in their production of The Dining Room. Daniel Jordan is working at Universal Theme park in Orlando and is on tour with the Mitch Lee Puppet Theatre. Ellie Weber is working as a technician at the Barter Theatre. Lydia Campbell is now working on staff with Lifeway. Liz Floto is on staff with Greenville Little Theatre and now coordinates our interns there. Leah Thomas interned as marketing rep for Centre Stage SC and Jessica Snyder is continuing in the MFA costume design program at Western IL University. Melody Pinion was hired by Dollywood Theme Park and will tour with them first, then act at the park.
Faculty News: Assistant Professor Corrie Eddleman auditioned at the Georgia Shakespeare Festival for summer 2009; she was also invited to submit an audition for the prestigious Oregon Shakespeare Festival for summer 2010 and will be taking an intensive workshop on the Alexander technique this summer, a step toward her certification as an Alexander instructor. Assistant Professor Marlaina Seay is designing sets for a production of The Foreigner at Theatre Tuscaloosa and Department Chair Dr. Dale Savidge is directing The God Committee at Centre Stage in April 2009. Dr Savidge recently presented workshops at the Calvin Institute for Christian Worship 2009 Symposium. His publication. Performing the Sacred: Theology and Theatre in Dialogue (which he coauthored with Dr. Todd Johnson) will be available from Baker Academic Press this summer. Ted Thomas, tech director, is a member of the United States Institute of Theatre Technology and attended their annual convention in Cincinnati with theatre major Andrew Turner. Steve Broyles, adjunct professor of playwriting, has been accepted into the Act One screenwriting program in Hollywood. He will spend a month with professionals in the film industry in summer 2009.
Work begins on new theatre complex! President Jimmy Epting announced the receipt of sufficient funding to begin work on a new black-box theatre and academic/admin theatre buildings. Work commenced over the summer of 2008. TD Ted Thomas drafted preliminary ideas for both buildings and the architectural drawings for a 300 seat, state-of-the-art studio theatre are now out for bid. Plans are for both buildings to be completed in the next year. Click here to read more and see some drawings.
