August 2008 Events

 

August 28, 2008 at 8 pm in Hamlin Recital Hall.  Dr. Lilia Stoytcheva Piano Recital.                                                                                                                    no tickets necessary
Dr. Lilia Stoytcheva is an Associate Professor of Music at North Greenville University. She is a native of Sofia, Bulgaria. Dr. Stoytcheva has won numerous national and international competitions and has appeared on television performances in Europe and in the USA.  In the summer of 2008 she performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.

September 9, 2008 at 7 pm in Hamlin Recital Hall. Martha Kitterman Flute Recital.                                                                                             no tickets necessary
Martha Kitterman serves as Principal flute with the Asheville Symphony Orchestra and the GAMAC Chamber Orchestra in Anderson. In recent years she has also performed with the Augusta and Greenville Symphony Orchestras, GAMAC Chamber Orchestra and the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra, and has given numerous recitals in North and South Carolina and Georgia. She is also flutist with the Heritage Woodwind Quintet. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she has continued her flute studies over the years with teachers in Cincinnati, Atlanta, and Chapel Hill.

Rodrigo was born with a deep love and passion for music. Although he has made many CD's, concerts tours, and performances world wide since the age of 15; it has only been in the most recent years that he has been able to play with a new found joy and inspiration that comes from his personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Dr. Grant Lewis earned his Bachelor's degree in Voice Performance and his Master's degree in Church Music at Bob Jones University. He was awarded the Grace Levinson award and won the NATS Graduate Men's division at the regional level for two consecutive years. He holds the DMus from Indiana University and frequently performs as a soloist and has enjoyed both cover and performing roles in Il Trovatore (Verdi), Tosca (Puccini), Lucia di Lammermoor (Donizetti), Handel's Messiah, Haydn's Creation, and the Mozart Requiem.
 

October 2008 Events

 The master of physical comedy and masked theatre returns to NGU for a combination CEVT and BSU spectacular show. Funny, provocative and always challenging the mimed-masked-master of mayhem is sure to delight, inspire and instruct.

Join members of the NGU English faculty in a discussion of major themes and interpretations of Shakespeare’s play.

Doug Young is a full-time sculptor who has invested his life in teaching others. A versatile artist, Young has taught drawing, calligraphy, and sculpture in high schools and continuing education programs. He has also taught classes in his studio to a variety of age groups and skill levels. He has won awards for his work in pastel and graphic design. His works include a life-size sculpture of ‘Shoeless’ Joe Jackson, which stands at Greenville’s West End, and Gethsemane a commissioned work for North Greenville University . A third life-size bronze, The Patriot, was created for J. L. Mann High School.

William Shakespeare’s masterpiece – the classic tragedy of star-crossed lovers. Directed by Corrie Eddleman and featuring NGU Theatre Department majors.                                      

October 21, 2008 at 6:30 pm in Hamlin Recital Hall.  2008 Election Debates:  NGU's Impact                                                                                                                               No tickets necessary
NGU Honors Students debate the issues of the 2008 Presidential Election.  Dr. Tony Beam will moderate a lively debate between two groups of students from the honors seminar, “Media's Impact on the Presidency.”  Students will have invested several weeks preparing and prepping for this debate.  Audience questions will be solicited and answered.                                                                

 

November 2008 Events

November 3, 2008 at 7:30 pm in Hamlin Recital Hall. Jenna Hallman, 2009 State Teacher of the Year.                                                            Tickets available October 27
Ms. Hallman will address the need for 21st century education and how our new upcoming teachers can help in this endeavor. Sponsored by the NGU College of Education.

Enjoy an evening of small musical ensembles: a variety of instrumental groups and styles will be featured. The same program is performed at 5pm and repeated at 7 pm.

The NGU Concert Choir never disappoints in this gala celebration of the Christmas season. Dr Barry Combs directs a 50 voice choir in selections both sacred and seasonal.

The Fine Arts Series has become an outstanding tradition at North Greenville University.

The Series presents excellent theatre productions, music recitals and concerts, art exhibits, and other cultural performances.
