January 27, 2009 at 7 pm in Hamlin Recital Hall. Paul Kenyon Piano Recital.

Paul Kenyon is a performing pianist who plays diverse repertoire in a variety of venues and formats. He particularly enjoys welcoming audiences who are new to the concert listening experience. Through creative programming and spoken word Paul enables listeners to gain access to deeper musical enjoyment and understanding. Both his musical performances and the accompanying commentary have received praise as he has appeared in concerts across the United States. Currently, Paul is a member of the music faculty at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California, where he teaches piano and serves as department chair. 

January 29, 2008 at 8 pm in Hamlin Recital Hall. Jeffrey Tarr, baritone and Joy Puckett Schreier, pianist in Concert.                                        No tickets necessary
Possessing a rich, warm voice with "rock-solid vocalism and powerful projection" (The Capital), bass Jeffrey Tarr is equally in demand for opera and concert work.  He has appeared with the Washington National Opera, Opera Bel Cantanti, Chattanooga Symphony and Opera, and Maryland Concert Opera.  Joy Puckett Schreier, described by Plácido Domingo as an “orchestra at the piano” and hailed as a pianist who “really has it all – fiery technique and a rich, warm tone,” made her Carnegie Hall debut at Weill Recital Hall in March 2007.  The Washington Post has praised her as a “responsive accompanist” and an “ideal support” at the piano and she has been credited as “so noteworthy that the room seemed to vibrate from her depth and skill.” Works in the recital will include the selections composed by Purcell, Schubert, Finzi, Loewe, and McGimsey.

Christopher Davis presents a recital of contemporary percussion works by composers Andrew Thomas, Christopher Deane, Eckhard Kopetzki, David Maslanka, and Steve Ridley. 
 

February 3, 2009 at 7:30 pm in Turner Chapel. Frederick Hohman, organist in concert.                                                                                         No tickets necessary
Fred Hohman is an internationally acclaimed concert organist as well  as a sought-after audio producer / engineer, producer / host of an organ-music television series, and most recently, a composer.  Dr. Hohman has produced over 200 organ and choral CDs, many of which have drawn critical-acclaim. He studied with David Craighead at Eastman where he received his degrees. When not on location for concerts or recordings, he can be found working in his music studio and audio / video facility, Zarex HD, in South Bend, Indiana.

March 2009 Events

March 4, 2009 at 7 pm in Hamlin Recital Hall. Art Exhibit.   Tickets available February 23
Members of North Greenville University's art faculty will present an exhibition of recent works. The artists will be present at the opening to introduce the audience to their work as well as answer questions. The show will run through April 2, 2009. The public is invited to attend. 

March 19, 2009 at 8:00 pm in Hamlin Recital Hall                                No tickets necessary
The North Greenville University Brass Quintet
will present a varied program including the oldest piece for Brass Quintet, Die Bankelsangerlieder, and a Beatle’s song arranged for Brass Quintet.  The five members of the quintet are music education majors playing trumpets, horn, trombone, and tuba.

Celebrate the advent of spring with the NGU Concert Choir. From the stirring sounds of the classical repertoire to contemporary works of music hot off the press this is an evening sure to delight audiences of any age.

consisting of Violin, Clarinet, and Piano; featuring Dr. Weaver on Violin, Dr. Coppenbarger on Clarinet, and Dr. Stoytcheva on Piano.

Emerging Artist’s Spotlight.
This is an annual invitational exhibition which gives young artists an opportunity to display their talents. The artists will be present at the opening to introduce their work as well as answer questions. The show will run through April 29, 2009. The public is invited to attend.

Chamber Music Concert
. Enjoy an evening of small musical ensembles: a variety of instrumental groups and styles will be featured. The same program is performed at 5pm and repeated at 7 pm.

Written by William Gibson and directed by Corrie Eddleman. Gibson's most famous play is the story of Helen Keller's childhood education, which won him the Tony Award for Best Play. Young Helen, blind, deaf, and mute since infancy, is in danger of being sent to an institution. Her inability to communicate has left her frustrated and violent. In desperation, her parents seek help from the Perkins Institute, which sends them a "half-blind Yankee schoolgirl" named Annie Sullivan to tutor their daughter. Through persistence and love, and sheer stubbornness, Annie breaks through Helen's walls of silence and darkness.

The Fine Arts Series has become an outstanding tradition at North Greenville University.

The Series presents excellent theatre productions, music recitals and concerts, art exhibits, and other cultural performances. The University presents these events for the enlightenment of its student body and for the training of professional artists. Please make plans to join us for these outstanding events!
