The North
Greenville University School of Music offers many opportunities for student
performance. Listed below are some of the ensembles available to the student
body and music majors.

Brass Quintet |

| |
| With assistance of faculty
member, Dr. Gayle Chesebro, The North Greenville Brass Quintet
is a scholarship group open by audition. They meet for two hours
of faculty supervised coaching each week and study the standard
brass quintet literature. Representative literature from past
performances includes works by Giovanni Gabrieli, Malcolm
Arnold, Ingolf Dahl, and Robert Nagel. Performance opportunities
for the Quintet are many, both on and off campus. |

Concert Choir
|
| |
Under the direction of Dr. Barry Combs, The North
Greenville Concert Choir, composed of selected voices, is one of eight
performing ensembles in the Music Department of the Fine Arts Division,
and is open to students from all academic majors. Membership is by
interview with the Director of Choral Activities. The Concert Choir
offers a high quality choral experience for future music educators,
church musicians, and performers. It provides music for chapel, and
performs several concerts both on and off campus each year, including a
tour each spring. It has been honored by being selected to perform on
the state convention of the South Carolina American Choral Directors
Association, the South Carolina Baptist Convention annual meeting, and
has performed with the Greenville Symphony.

Handbell Choir

The handbell choir meets twice a week and students
may earn one credit hour per semester. The handbell choir was
established in 1999. The handbell choir performs in chapel, schools, and
other special events. |

Jazz Band |
| |
Under the direction of Mr. Charlie Parker, The North
Greenville Jazz Band is open to instrumentalists by audition. Standard
jazz ensemble instrumentation will be used to trace historical jazz
styles through performances |

Marching Band |

NGU Marching Band |
The NGU Marching
Crusaders perform at all home football games, select away games, and
area parades and festivals. The marching band was established in the
fall of 2000 and is a scholarship-based organization in which funds are
distributed between fall and spring semesters. The band is open to all
enrolled students at NGU. The Marching Crusaders were the featured
ensemble for the 2006 Red Ribbon Week Parade in Greenville, SC and
appeared in the 2006 Victory Bowl. It is under the direction of Mr.

Greenville Singers |
| |
Under the direction of Dr. Barry Combs, The North
Greenville Singers are a chamber ensemble that performs a wide variety
of choral literature. Membership is open to the student body by audition
only. The group frequently sings for community events, local churches,
campus chapels, as well as participates with the Concert Choir in a
spring tour. The North Greenville Singers have participated in Madrigal
Dinners, and combined with the theater department in musicals. |

NGU Percussion Ensemble

The North Greenville University Percussion Ensemble
is open to anyone with permission of the director. The ensemble
rehearses three hours each week and performs a variety of musical styles
in the standard percussion ensemble literature as well as world music.
It performs on campus each semester as well as extra events around the
campus. Each spring, the percussion ensemble tours to high schools
around the state of South Carolina. It is under the direction of Mr.

Orchestra |

String Students in concert. |
The North Greenville University Orchestra is a
full orchestra with membership open to all university students with
instructor approval. Performances range from evening services for
churches to full length concerts and collaborations with other music
ensembles and NGU's Theatre Department. What sets North Greenville's
orchestra apart from other university orchestras is the integration of
faith with the study and performance of standard classical repertoire
and sacred orchestral music. The orchestra rehearses on Tuesdays and
Thursdays 3:05-4:20. The 2008-2009 season includes a Christmas
collaboration with the North Greenville Singers and the NGU Theatre
Department, and a performance of 'A Grand Night for Singing' in March at
Greenville's Gunter Theater in collaboration with NGU's Theatre

Concert Band |
| Under the direction of Mr. Charlie
Parker, the North Greenville Concert Band consists of both music
majors and non-majors with permission of the director. The Band
rehearses twice each week, and students may earn one credit hour
per semester. The Concert Band performs a variety of literature
combining sacred arrangements with standard and contemporary
band pieces. The Concert Band also performs at Chapel services,
Founders Day, Commencement, fall and spring concerts, and a
Christmas Concert. |

Woodwind Ensembles |

With the assistance of
faculty member, Ms. Martha Kitterman, North Greenville University
Woodwind Ensembles are scholarship groups open to students by audition.
The groups perform music from the standard literature. Performance
opportunities for the group include Chapel on campus, concerts in area
schools for elementary or junior high school students, departmental
concerts. Occasionally, the group plays in area churches or other off
campus venues. Students rehearse two hours per week. |
